Dr. Joy Lucas is originally from Wellston, Ohio. She completed her undergraduate degree at Ohio Dominican University. She then attended the University of Tennessee, where she received her doctorate of verterinary medicine in 1994. In 1995, she completed her internship at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron, Ohio. Following her internship, Dr. Lucas worked at a small animal practice for six years in Albany, NY. In June of 2001 she purchased Upstate Animal Medical Center and hasn't looked back since.

In addition to her passion for small animal medicine, Dr. Lucas has a strong interest in avian and exotic medicine. She attends specialized conferences yearly, which makes her one of the most experienced vets in the area. Her knowledge base and experience work hand in hand assuring your exotic pet is getting the best treatment available. Joy also volunteers her time to care for injured wildlife through Northcountry Wildcare.

In honor of her late Great Dane "Zu," Dr. Lucas supports the Safe Pet Partnership Organization, which is a division of Wellspring, formerly DVRC of Saratoga County. In her spare time, Dr. Lucas enjoys many outdoor activities in the Adirondacks with her two dogs, Possum and Britton. Her other beloved critters include her Amazon Parrot - Hebbie,

and four cats - Amigo, Bryce, Ruby & Smitten.

Dr. Amy Bergin was raised right here in Saratoga Springs... She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from COrnell University in 1994, then pursued a career in Entomology before attending Vet School. She received her DVM from Cornell in '02, starting her small animal medicine career in Rochester. In '06 she decided to return to her roots, meeting her husband shortly after returning home, started a family and has practiced part-time for over a decade. She comes to Upstate with a glowing review from practically everyone! We are excited to welcome her to our clinic on Saturdays.

Her special interests are small animal behavior, dermatology and geriatric medicine. You will often find her covered in fur, as she conducts most of her exams on the floor to make patients feel more at ease. She is currently earning her Fear Free Certification to helping the patient and owner have a better experience at the Vet Visit.

When Dr. Bergin is not working she is home raising her 2 beautiful daughters, Laken and Ashlyn and caring for her fur babies Nani, a beagle and James, a cat. Her favorite times are those spent with family: swimming, crafting and vacationing in Disney World.
