Dr. Scott Cherry is a graduate of Cornell University Veterinary School and completed a surgical internship at a world-renowned specialty practice in Brisbane, Australia. After his internship Dr Cherry returned home to the Albany area to practice. He spent the last 10 years at Shaker Veterinary Hospital as their primary orthopedic surgeon before deciding to move to Upstate AMC.
He has years of experience with both soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. He is certified in both TPLO and lateral suture repair of cruciate ligament injuries. He has extensive experience with various fracture repair methods including plate, pin and wire, and external fixation. He is a strong proponent of postoperative rehabilitation.
It won't take you long to experience Dr.Cherry's great sense of humor. He always has the team laughing or at least rolling their eyes. He loves getting on the floor with the animals and for that all the animals love him.
Dr. Cherry and his wife Ruth have an adorable son named Marcus, a dog - Mimsey and two cats - Hydrox and Bellatrex. In his spare time, Dr. Cherry enjoys skiing, scuba diving and Autocross competition.
Dr. Joy Lucas is originally from Wellston, Ohio. She completed her undergraduate degree at Ohio Dominican University. She then attended the University of Tennessee, where she received her doctorate of verterinary medicine in 1994. In 1995, she completed her internship at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron, Ohio. Following her internship, Dr. Lucas worked at a small animal practice for six years in Albany, NY. In June of 2001 she purchased Upstate Animal Medical Center and hasn't looked back since.
In addition to her passion for small animal medicine, Dr. Lucas has a strong interest in avian and exotic medicine. She attends specialized conferences yearly, which makes her one of the most experienced vets in the area. Her knowledge base and experience work hand in hand assuring your exotic pet is getting the best treatment available. Joy also volunteers her time to care for injured wildlife through Northcountry Wildcare.
In honor of her late Great Dane "Zu," Dr. Lucas supports the Safe Pet Partnership Organization, which is a division of Wellspring, formerly DVRC of Saratoga County.
In her spare time, Dr. Lucas enjoys many outdoor activities in the Adirondacks with her two dogs, Possum and Britton. Her other beloved critters include her Amazon Parrot, Hebbie, and four cats - Amigo, Bryce, Ruby & Smitten.
